Fact Check-Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema not guilty of blasphemy

A Facebook post by former Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection, Raphael Nakacinda suggests Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema is guilty of blasphemy.

The original Facebook post (https://fb.watch/8_CrfQtcrY/) claims Mr. Hichilema must have said only God will kneel before me. Mr. Nakacinda’s post reads: “Kindly listen carefully at the end, did he say, “only God will kneel before me?”

While many users in the more than 150 comments beneath the post understood what the president said.

“You have got problems with your ears. You should be cleaning them so that you hear properly. If it’s not your ears, then it’s your brain,” one reply reads.

The claim has also been viewed by close to 1,000 followers on Facebook.

VERDICT

False. In the video Mr Hichilema said: “… I don’t want anyone to kneel before me, only God we kneel before.” He did not say, God will kneel before me.
