International Rights Watchdog Exposes Alleged Abductions, Torture and Political Repression in Zambia

A report released on November 1, 2026, by international human rights watchdog Human Rights Watch (HRW) documents 14 cases of apparent enforced disappearances and 61 cases of alleged physical abuse during arrests or detention following Zambia’s August 13 general elections, which saw President Hakainde Hichilema secure another term in office.
