What does someone who has observed African elections for decades make of Zambia’s 2026 election?
Professor Stephen Chan, OBE, is no stranger to Zambia. He lived and worked in the country in the 1980s, later became an Honorary Professor at the University of Zambia and, in 2022, received Zambia’s Presidential Insignia for Meritorious Achievement.
Now he is back in Zambia to observe the 2026 general election.
MakanDay Editor Charles Mafa sat down with Professor Chan for a wide-ranging conversation about what he has seen on the ground as Zambians prepare to vote.
