MakanDay has been featured in a Vanguard Africa article examining the lessons from Zambia’s 2026 general election and the institutional reforms needed ahead of the next polls in 2031.
The article, Beyond Who Won: A Reckoning with Zambia’s Institutions, draws from Zambia After the Ballot, an online discussion convened by the Resistance Bureau, where Charles Mafa, our editor, joined other panellists in examining the election beyond the question of who won.
MakanDay argued that accepting the declared election result should not prevent scrutiny of the electoral process, including concerns about procedures, policing and the performance of institutions responsible for safeguarding Zambia’s democracy.
“Yes, we can accept the results and still question the process. That is very important.”
The discussion also featured Zambia Human Rights Commission Chairperson Dr Pamela Sambo and explored reforms participants said would be necessary to strengthen public confidence in key institutions ahead of the 2031 elections.
