The High Court has adjourned the trial of two men accused of aggravated robbery to 15 October 2026 as the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) considers a proposal to reduce the charge to a lesser offence.

Solomon Mbewe, 26, and Felix Chipili, 22, are accused of robbing Michael Kalebwe of K9,000 after allegedly breaking into the house where he was sleeping in Mulobela Village, Ten Miles, in the early hours of 3 February 2026.

When the matter came before High Court Judge Mutinta Kaumbi Ndulo-Mundia, an NPA representative requested an adjournment to allow further consultations over the proposed reduction of the charge.

The representative told the court that prosecutors had written to their superiors following an earlier adjournment, seeking approval to reduce the charge.

The court heard that the prosecution team had received a response on Friday afternoon but had not yet communicated the information to witnesses.

The prosecution subsequently requested that the matter be adjourned to 15 October 2026.

Mbewe and Chipili pleaded not guilty to aggravated robbery when they appeared before the High Court on 5 October 2026.

According to the allegations, the robbery occurred at approximately 02:00 hours on 3 February 2026 in Mulobela Village, Ten Miles.

The two men were arrested on the same day and initially detained at Mwanjune Police Post before being transferred to Ngwerere Police Station.

They were subsequently remanded at Lusaka Central Prison and later transferred to Mwembeshi Correctional Facility. They are currently being held at Lusaka Central Prison.

The latest adjournment follows an earlier adjournment to allow the NPA and Legal Aid to discuss whether the aggravated robbery charge should be maintained or reduced.
