A news report posted online claims newly appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary for Western Province Mwalye Imbuwa has been fired for dishonestly signing for the release of K2 million.

The report has been widely shared on several platforms, including on Sun FM and Prime Television Facebook pages.

A letter terminating Mr Imbuwa’s contract dated 29th November 2021 allegedly signed by acting Western Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Francis Liywali has been widely shared on several online media platforms. It does not state the reasons for firing Mr. Imbuwa except to say the action was an instruction from the Civil Service Commission acting in the name of the President.

Another letter dated 29th November 2021 signed by Margaret Miyoba, the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Management Division and addressed to the Permanent Secretary for Western Province has also been leaked to the media. It directs the PS to notify Mr Imbuwa of the termination of his contract. He had only been in office for not more than three weeks.

A local Radio Liseli in Mongu contacted Mr Imbuwa for comment, but he said he cannot do so as the matter is now in the hands of his lawyers.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Liywali was also unavailable for comment.

VERDICT

We can confirm that the claim that Mr. Imbuwa’s contract has been terminated is true. This has been confirmed by impeccable sources within the provincial administration. However, what we can’t confirm is whether this is because Mr Imbuwa signed for the release of K2 Million.

The claim that Mr Imbuwa has been fired is therefore true.
